Vibration - Basic Concept

چکیده

Sounds are variations in pressure that propagate in an "elastic" environment, usually air, which can generally be perceived by human ears. A well-known example of variation in pressure is the one that takes place in the atmosphere, but these air changes are too slow to be heard. However, if these changes occurred at least 20 times per second, we would perceive them as sounds. In fact, man can hear any variation in pressure that takes place with a frequency ranging from 20 to 20,000 times per second. These variations per second are called "frequency" and are measured in Hertz (Hz). Variations below the threshold of 20 per second generate infra sound, and variations above 20,000 per second generate ultrasound. A drum and a whistle are examples of low and high frequency. Sounds are also characterized by their "amplitude": the buzz of a mosquito and the shot of a cannon are examples of small and large amplitude. Noises are unpleasant and undesired sounds. The degree of nuisance is subjective, and can vary in the same person depending on the circumstances. Excessive exposure to noise can cause a series of specific damages to the hearing, as well as more general damage to the entire body. Sound waves propagate in the medium in which they find themselves, (at 340 m/sec in air, at 1480 m/sec in water, at 4880 m/sec in steel) , through a series of compressions and rarefactions. Sound transmission cannot take place in a vacuum.

On the Analysis of FGM Beams: FEM with Innovative Element

This paper aims at presenting a new efficient element for free vibration and instability analysis of Axially Functionally Graded Materials (FGMs) non-prismatic beams using Finite Element Method (FEM). Using concept of Basic Displacement Functions (BDFs), two- node element extends  to three-node element for obtaining much more exact results using FEM. First, BDFs are introduced and computed usin...

Monitoring of Structures and Mechanical Systems Using Virtual Visual Sensors for Video Analysis: Fundamental Concept and Proof of Feasibility

Structural health monitoring (SHM) has become a viable tool to provide owners of structures and mechanical systems with quantitative and objective data for maintenance and repair. Traditionally, discrete contact sensors such as strain gages or accelerometers have been used for SHM. However, distributed remote sensors could be advantageous since they don’t require cabling and can cover an area r...

Vibration sonoelastography and the detectability of lesions.

Vibration sonoelastography has been developed for the detection of hard lesions in relatively soft tissue. The basic concept is to propagate low-amplitude and low-frequency shear waves (with displacements below 0.1 mm and frequencies typically below 1000 Hz) through deep organs, and displaying the vibration response in real-time using advanced color Doppler imaging techniques. A hard inhomogene...

Averaging in damping by parametric stiffness excitation

Stability investigations of vibration quenching employing the concept of actuators with a variable stiffness are presented. Systems with an arbitrary number of degrees of freedom with linear springand damping-elements are considered, that are subject to self-excitation as well as parametric stiffness excitation. General conditions for full vibration suppression and conditions of instability are...

ارزیابی مواجهه راهبران مترو با ارتعاش تمام بدن بر اساس روش های پایه و VDV استاندارد ISO 2631-1

Introduction: Whole body vibration occurs when human is on a vibrating surface and the vibration influences parts of the body which are far from the contacted part. Up to now, various health-related problems due to whole body vibration have been reported, including back pain, sciatica, gastrointestinal problems, genital problems and hearing impairment. In the present research, vibration was mea...

Implementing Basic Displacement Function to Analyze Free Vibration Rotation of Non-Prismatic Euler-Bernoulli Beams

Rotating beams have been considerably appealing to engineers and designers of complex structures i.e. aircraft’s propeller and windmill turbines. In this paper, a new flexibility-based method is proposed for the dynamic analysis of rotating non-prismatic Euler-Bernoulli beams. The flexibility basis of the method ensures the true satisfaction of equilibrium equations at any interior point of the...
